Labor Day: Your chance to hit reset.

Written by Merity Team | 18 Aug, 2025

The best reset isn’t on January 1st. It’s the one you give yourself right now.

Labor Day sneaks up every year, doesn’t it? One minute it’s summer Fridays and beach days, and the next: school is back in session, routines are shifting, and there’s that first hint of fall in the air.

It’s more than just a long weekend. For many of us, it feels like a natural reset button. Much like New Year’s, it’s a moment where you pause and think: Okay, what’s next for me?

The difference is that September brings a different kind of energy. Instead of the high-pressure, resolution-fueled start of January, Labor Day signals a quieter, steadier opportunity. It’s a chance to ease into change with intention. Whether that means setting new goals, tightening routines, or simply creating more balance as the year winds down.

Why September works as a fresh start

  • The calendar shifts. The back-to-school rhythm means earlier mornings, more structure, and a natural sense of “new beginnings.”
  • The seasons change. Cooler mornings and shorter days remind us that time is moving forward, and so should we.
  • The year isn’t over yet. With four months left, there’s still plenty of time to make meaningful progress.

This combination makes September the perfect window to check in with yourself. What have you accomplished so far this year? What still feels unfinished? What would make you feel proud heading into the holidays?

“September brings a steadier kind of energy: perfect for real, lasting change.”

If you’re looking to harness this natural momentum, here are a few simple ways to start:

  1. Reflect on what’s working and what’s not. Take stock of your routines, your energy, and your priorities. Where are you thriving? Where are you struggling?
  2. Choose one focus area. Instead of overwhelming yourself with a long list of changes, pick one thing that would make the biggest difference. It might be carving out more time for family, setting clearer boundaries at work, or planning your next career move.
  3. Set small, sustainable goals. The beauty of a September reset is that you don’t have to overhaul your life. Think steady progress, not drastic reinvention.
  4. Get accountability. Whether it’s a friend, a colleague, or a coach, having someone to check in with can keep your momentum going past the first burst of motivation.

How can we help?

If you’re feeling that same urge for change but aren’t sure where to start, that’s where Merity can help. Our coaching is designed for these transitional moments, helping you clarify your goals, build resilience, and move forward with purpose.

So this year, don’t let Labor Day just mark the end of summer. Let it be the start of what’s next.

Merity will be having it’s own reset with new weekly workshops and pricing starting in October! Stay tuned...
